  • 1.  Team Teaching on the Internet

    Colleagues:

I just joined this list after a long conversation with Charlie Wenkel. He
suggested what we are doing would be of interest to many of you. Here it is:

We are initiating a Program to create Learning Communities via Team Teaching
on the Internet. We will focus on certain areas of Business Studies
including, - Entrepreneurship, International Business, Marketing, MIS,
Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory, Operations Management,
Personnel and Human Resources, Strategic Management, Stakeholder Management,
    and Environmental Management.

We hope to get 7-10 Instructors per team (different countries, different
orientations, diverse voices) to teach from a common (but customized) pool
of materials jointly developed by the team. Instructors and outside experts
will electronically visit each others class Bulletin Boards, plus interact
in many other ways to implement the Socratic method of critical inquiry and
dialogue on the Internet/WWW. For details please visit

    http://www.environmentalintel.com/socrates/

The Strategic Management Team has already attracted people from Italy,
    Mexico, UK, Canada and USA.

By joining the teams, you get a FREE customized, comprehensive, and highly
interactive teaching Web Site (with thousands of Web links, course
materials, and a Digital Library) for your course. This form of teaching
enhances class-room experience, by bringing rich and upto date WWW/Internet
resources to students, empowers students for life long learning, makes
teaching easier for faculty, and saves resources. Resources available at the
site will include Online Courses and an elaborate Digital Library. We are
also planning some unique interactivity features including:

    1. Diversity Conversations: Get students to engage with ideologically,
racially, ethnically, genderedly? diverse voices on class topics using
    threaded discussion bulletin board.
    2. International Perspectives: Get students engaged in discussions with
foriegn participants, via a well designed and moderated international listserv.
    3. Leadership Mentoring: Get students to engage community, corporate, other
leaders in mentoring discussions, via email and occassional chatroom.

If you are interested please reply to this message with your,

Please forward this message to faculty who may be interested in exploring

    Thanks for your help.

I HIGHLY recommend involvement in this cutting-edge
opportunity to you all--especially non-USA based
management faculty. Paul's group handles the technical
details of putting materials up on the website etc. You
mainly have to deliver your contribution of material to
him and they do the techie stuff. Paul is one of the most
ethical people in our profession with great credentials. See
    http://www.facstaff.bucknell.edu/shrivast/boss.html
So I recommend that you go to the Socrates website:
    http://www.environmentalintel.com/socrates
and then contact Paul about how you can bring
your students into the new millennium with this world-class
program. I am sure that he will help you handle many
of the issues that you think might not work for you. He's
convinced me and I hope to have my students in this
    in the Fall 1998 term.
    Cybercollegially,
    Charlie Wankel
