In response to Ken Smith's request for information (see below), there's a
lot written on change, planned change, managing change, approaches to
change, etc. In 1976 when I assembled the first comprehensive bibliography
on OD and change there were already over 600 sources. It's anybody's guess
how many sources there are at this point over 20 years later, but certainly
well over 10,000. For starters, I'd encourage your student to pick up a
basic book on organization development, such as any of the editions of
Cummings & Huse or one of the French-Bell-Zawacki readers, to get some
preliminary grounding on various approaches. Then I'd have him/her review
the last 10 years of material in JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE
MANAGEMENT, which publishes conceptual, empirical, practical, etc. material
on various approaches to managing change from people like Warren Bennis and
Tom Peters. Dave Boje at New Mexico State is Editor and he's done a superb
job. There's also the MC and OD Divisions of the Academy of Management, if
your student has a long-term interest in the topic. Hope this helps.
