The (creative) morphological approach is precisely what you are describing
here. So one of the keywords must be morpholog/. Just don't get distracted
by applied, specialized morphology in fields like medicine, linguistics,
cristals, metals, etc, etc. What you are looking for is the underlaying concept.
Just to make sure: You cannot have a better hit in decribing your search.

Recently I am looking into an area (without knowing what specific terms to
look for) by examining the situation of taking ideas / concepts from one
field and applied to a totally different field. For example, a concept or
idea taken from management, business or even industrial engineering and
    apply to construction management.

I know that it is quite a common situation but I am not sure what keyword
terms should I use to make my search more successful. Any references
describing this concept is highly appreciated.
