Karen, Until last year, I relied on open systems and socio-technical
systems as the basis for my teaching. Then last year I met Bowen Family
Theory, and it plugged the "hole" left in those theories with the notion of
emotion. My understanding of the theory continues to grow, and it
continues to be more and more the basis of what I teach.

    Marvin,
    Here are some references
"The Emotional Side of Organizations: Applications of Bowen Theory" which
is a compilation of papers presented at the Georgetown Family Center's
Conference on Organizations, April 22-23, 1995 and edited by Patricia A.
Comella, Joyce Bader, Judith S. Ball, Kathleen K. Wiseman and Ruth Riley
    Sagar.

Daniel Papero, Bowen Family SystemsTheory (Allyn & Bacon, 1992).

Murray Bowen, Family Therapy in Clinical Practice (Jason Aronson, 1978)

Edwin H. Friedman, Generation to Generation: Family Process in Church and
    Synagogue (The Guilford Press, 1985)

Roberta M. Gilbert, Extraordinary Relationships: A New Way of Thinking
about Human Interactions (Chronimed Publishing, 1992)

Michael E. Kerr & Murray Bowen, Family Evaluation: The Role of Family as
an Emotional Unit that Governs Individual Behavior & Development (W.W.
    Norton & Co., 1988).

    Those should keep you busy.

    Marvin:
I agree that "The Emotional Side of Organizations: Applications of Bowen
Theory" is a great reference. I would also suggest "Emotion in
Organizations" edited by Stephen Fineman from Sage Publications.
