I think this is a great discussion idea. I'm presently involved in a WBT collaboration to design a learning site and forum for management. Our first challenge (and we're a little stuck in the discussion) is what skills are particular to Management Education? We haven't been able to find any.
These are some of the skill sets/modules that appear to be necessary components for anyone's success regardless of title or function. What are we missing?
Understanding the different preferences that people have in communication, motivation and learning styles (also necc for effective teaming, conflict resolution and "selling" situations)
Leadership (managing attitudes) vs management (managing people) vs supervision (managing tasks) functions.
Creativity, taking risks, managing change, problem solving, coaching/facilitating, effective delegation, decision making.
Or,
motivating, advising, innovating, promoting, developing, integrating, organizing, producing, reviewing, maintaining.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Christie

Subject: Teaching Web Enhanced/Online Managment Courses
I would like to start a new thread that relates to Management Education.
Have any of you taught a basic intro/principles course on a web
enhanced basis or as an online offering? Are any of you thinking
about doing this in the near future and would like to discuss
the pros and cons of doing this, the pitfalls and the rewards?
Are any of you interested in discussing the concept of collaborating
on a joint web based venture in small teams to link our course
related pages, perhaps create a common listserv, set up a management
related chat where we could rotate as moderators, perhaps use
a common discussion forum, etc.?
cheers!
