    Hello fellow MG-ED-DV subscribers-

As the year draws to a close, I thought you might be interested specifically in the CasePlace.org collection of curricular materials Reflecting on the Year's Progress Regarding Business and Society: Voices of Hope and Voices of Skepticism.

CasePlace.org remains an entirely cost-free resource, and the full text of many cases and articles is often available to faculty.

    Have a great holiday season.

    2005: The Year in Review
As 2005 draws to a close, it is a good time to reflect on how and whether corporations have changed the way they do business over the past year. This month we link to a brand new Featured Collection, Reflecting on the Year's Progress Regarding Business and Society: Voices of Hope and Voices of Skepticism, which poses the question: Will fundamental change really occur? See below for more.

Two cases are also featured that provide a good backdrop to the featured collection. BP and Coporate Greenwash and Anatomy of a Corporate Campaign: Rainforest Action Network and Citigroup both concern two of the worlds largest corporations and the effects their business decisions have had (or have not had) on society.

    Corporate Governance and Accountability (CGA)
With support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, we continue to examine the prevailing models of corporate governance and theories of the firm as they are understood, researched, and taught by business school faculty.

On December 2nd, as part of this initiative, Aspen BSP held a web conference to present newly developed Corporate Governance and Accountability teaching modules for use and adaptation in the MBA classroom. You can view these two modules here: What the Law Allows <javascript:ol('http://www.caseplace.org/collections/collections_show.htm?doc_id%3d306896');> and Maximizing Shareholder Value: What Are Shareholders' Interests? <javascript:ol('http://www.caseplace.org/collections/collections_show.htm?doc_id%3d315508');>

We'd like to invite all interested faculty members to be part of a new user-group for faculty who want to pilot test the teaching materials we are providing and to come together to share their experiences and best ideas. We hope to engage faculty in testing, refining and expanding these materials. We plan to convene the group both via web conference and at professional association meetings. We are interested in your participation but also in your best ideas about how to make such a group useful for you.

    Company: Rainforest Action Network (RAN)
Citigroup, the world's largest project finance bank, provided financing for extractive projects such as mining, logging, and oil exploration. Some of these projects took place in developing countries and in rainforests and other endangered ecosystems. In 2000, the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) launched its Global Finance Campaign with Citigroup as the target. The goal was to convince Citigroup, and eventually all lenders, to stop financing destructive activities in endangered ecosystems... Company: British Petroleum Amoco
Bp's green re-branding efforts began officially with the unveiling of its new bp Helios mark, named after the Greek sun god. However, environmental groups heaped scorn on bp's green re-branding. London Business School is pleased to invite submissions to the third in a series of international corporate responsibility conferences (following the Haas conference in 2005 and the Boston University conference in 2003). Topics for inclusion again range widely. We are particularly interested in papers that explore the implications of corporate responsibility, globalisation and global business for business and marketing strategy. Research papers can be either empirical or conceptual. A selection of papers presented will be considered for a special issue of the California Management Review. Proposal submission deadline (1-page abstracts) is December 31st, 2005. Read More >> <javascript:ol('http://www.caseplace.org/commentary/commentary_show.htm?doc_id%3d326436%26enews%3d1');>
