This survey is part of a Professional Development Workshop being
presented at the upcoming Eastern Academy of Management. The focus of
the workshop is to discover why faculty members attend academic
conferences. While conference participation is important for faculty
development, shrinking university budgets may be putting travel to
conferences in jeopardy. Consequently, faculty need to be more
deliberate in the choice of conferences attended and the conference
activities in which they engage. We would like to get a sense of why
faculty members attend conferences so that we can develop strategies to
maximize participants' conference objectives.
