The past few days of postings to this list can be summarized very easily:
1) If you post material written by (let's go beyond copyrights) anyone
else, give a complete reference for the material. If you have any
doubts about the legality of posting material not your own, check with
the author/copyright owner BEFORE posting. Better yet, simply cite
the material--for instance, the June 1, 1998 issue of "U.S. News &
World Report" has an interesting article about Microsoft on pages
40-45. You can suggest that others read the material from the
original source.
[Note: example ONLY; I'm not interested in starting a discussion of
this article!]
2) Be polite. There is no need to threaten anyone, or to present
oneself as a victim or overly sensitive. Too many "I'm sorry"
statements dilute the value of the statement
3) If you wish to have ongoing discussions with another person,
please do so directly and not over the list. My guess is that the
primary lesson learned by the majority of list members in the past
few days is that the majority of the postings have simply been an
on-going debate between 3 people.
