Colleagues,
Are you writing a paper or doing research on management education and
development in Eastern Europe or cross-culturally? The EAM conference in
Prague would be a great place to present. See Call for Papers below.
EASTERN ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT
MANAGING IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY VIII:
"Managerial Challenges for the 21st Century:
Transformation and Integration"
Prague, Czech Republic
June 20-24, 1999
Submission Deadline: October 5, 1998
Co-hosted with: CMC Graduate School of Business
As the geographical heart of Europe and the first country from Central and
Eastern Europe to join the Organization for European Economic Cooperation, the
Czech Republic is becoming an active player in the integration movement of
Europe's economic, political, and cultural landscapes. Because of this, the
Eastern Academy of Management has selected Prague as the site of its eighth
international conference. Its partner for this conference is the CMC Graduate
School of Business, the leading management institution in Central and Eastern
Europe. CMC has developed extensive graduate management education and
executive development programs and, through its active partnerships in the
international academic and management communities, it serves as a catalyst for
the integration of regional and international business perspectives.
The conference will take place June 20-24, 1999. The innovative program
format provides opportunities for dialogue with academics and practitioners.
It offers a chance to compare research perspectives on the changing political
and economic environment in Europe and around the world and debate their
managerial implications. The conference will include, formal paper sessions,
panel and round table discussions, on-site corporate visits, keynote sessions
featuring academicians, managers, and government officials from the Central
and Eastern Europe and a post-conference workshop.
Despite ongoing integration, Europe remains a collection of cultures, peoples,
and economies. Thus the theme of the conference focuses on issues of
transformation and integration among the organizations and institutions of
Europe, present and future. Authors with perspectives on these issues in
Europe, as well as other parts of the world, are invited to submit papers.
Papers on related topics of special interest as well as different aspects of
managing in a global economy including issues of policy and strategy, human
resource management, industrial relations, trade, structure of organizations,
productivity, technological innovation, social and cultural issues are also
welcome. Papers may draw from theory, research, practice or pedagogy. All
papers must be original and not previously published. Papers must be
submitted in English, the language of the conference.
The conference will accept submissions in two forms: Electronic submissions
can be made to
http://EAM-I.ssb.yorku.ca. Simple instructions will welcome
the authors once they access the site using any one of available browsers.
Authors must first register their intent to submit a paper or symposium and
obtain an identification number. They can upload their submission in a
variety of formats, although Windows 95, Word 6 is the preferred choice.
Alternatively, five hard copies of a paper can be mailed to the Program Chair
with an accompanied diskette containing the full text of the paper in Windows
95, Word 6 or Wordperfect; the format should be double-spaced with one inch
(2.5 cm) margins and separate footnotes and references at the back. The
names, addresses, affiliations, telephone, e-mail, and fax numbers of all
authors should be included on the title page. All subsequent communication
with the authors will be made through the designated e-mail address,
preferably of the first author. A separate abstract page should include the
title of the paper and a 75 word abstract. Authors are encouraged to keep
their papers within a 20-page limit.
In either form, complete submissions must be received by October 5, 1998.
Proposals for symposia and panels should include five copies of a 3-page
overview statement and a 3 to 5 page description of each participant's
presentation. Symposia and panels that are inter-disciplinary or draw
participants from different regions of the world are encouraged. Papers will
be blind reviewed and judged on quality, clarity, audience appeal,
applicability and scholarly contribution. Selected papers will be published
in the "Managing in a Global Economy VIII" the conference's proceedings. In
addition, there will be an Outstanding Paper Award given at the conference.
