  • 1.  What are the key MANAGERIAL Competencies?

I love your study, and want to contribute!

The main characteristic that a leader should have is having a pretty
clear of his/her own personality and character. I feel parents and
counselors and therapists should also have this. At least they should be
clearly and openly working on it. I can elaborate more if needed.

I am very interest in your 56.

I've noticed several attempts to define competency and to list competencies
for trainers or facilitators on these lists I subscribe to (apologies for
multiple postings you may receive). I am interested in listing MANAGERIAL
    Competencies.

A few years back I undertook a research study that identified 56 core and
generic competencies for MANAGERS in a specific corporation. I would be
happy to share the outcomes of this study in exchange for your
contributions to enlarging my list of 56 for future studies I will be
    conducting.

What are some competencies that any and all corporate managers should have?
I'm not interested in competencies that are specific to particular company
roles. Thanks (in anticipation) for you responses! I will share/post the
    final list.

    REGARDS! Simon.

    Simon,
I would suggest that to cut out a great deal of hard work you check out the
Management Charter Initiative (MCI) competency standards. They have been
researched and developed over the past 8-9 years both nationally and
internationally, and cover all levels from supervisor to senior
manager/director. There are corporate director standards available but I'm
not sure whether MCI have yet completed them (by completed I mean fully
    researched and piloted).

    Address for MCI is:

    Management Charter Initiative
    Russell Square House
    10-12 Russell Square
    London WC1B SBZ
    Tel 0171 872 9000
    fax 0171 872 9099

These are by far the best competency standards I have come across having
worked right around the world for the past 10 years and I would commend
them to anyone wanting to get a very clear picture of the competencies
required to fill any management function.

Hope that helps. Can you let me know how you go in your search? I'd be very
interested in anything you come up with.

  • 4.  What are the key MANAGERIAL Competencies?

    Simon,

Here are the managerial competences indentified for our org. in 1994. there
were 7 competences, sub-divided into 16 sub-competneces with examples of
behavioral statements for each sub-competences. since then the organization
has changed with change in roles and structures and I do not believe that
these competencies reflect the current requirements of the differnt
managerial positions. As generic competences, my guess is that they are OK.

    * People Managment included Fostering effective teamwork, Valuing Diversity
& Motivating performance, Delegating accountabilities & Authority,
    Appraising and Developing

    * Strategic leadership included strategic focus and Institutional
    contribution

    * Resource Managment included Planning and Resource Management

    * Client orientation included Client Relations & Coordinating with internal
    and Eternal partners

    * Professional leadership included professional Expertise and Analytical
    Thinking and Decisive Judgement

    * Personal Effectiveness skills included Resolving Differneces, Building
&Sustaining Relationships and Resourcefulness and Creativity

You had mentioned that you had done a research study and come up with 56
competences. I would be interested in learning how you went about this
research i.e what methodologies you used, how long it took you to complete
this exercise and how did you advise your clients in the application of 56
competneces. Many thanks and look forward,

    Nina
