  • 1.  Is multiple posting BAD netiquette?

    Posted 07-07-1998 02:01
I've failed to get a response from Robert Bacal on repeated requests for
help understanding the E-message below and would like to ask folks on these
lists if multiple posting IS considered a NO-NO! A dozen other
(non-management) lists I subscribe to seem to accept and support this
approach. What do you think? R.B. I'd really like to hear from you on
this either privately or publicly. Thanks!

    Posted 07-07-1998 17:24
Personally I don't have a problem with multiple-posts. I realise that there are
a lot of bulletin boards or chat sites or whatever they are called now and that
many people subscribe to most of them (I don't but I can understand that others
do). In this way the positive side is that people like me get information that
might be only posted on other sites but the negative is that people who
subscribe to a lot of sites get the same message several times.

Do we put a stop to multiple-postings? Well, it might deny people who only
subscribe to one or two sites information that might be important to them. Do
we let them continue? Well, I guess people who do subscribe to a lot of sites
will get peed off with getting so many copies of the same message.

The answer? Upset one group by appeasing the other. I'll let others sort that
    one out.
