Ben Medina who has recently completed his doctoral studies under Prof.
Marvin Manheim at Northwestern University has sent us the following notice:
It is my sad task to advise you of the death of Professor Marvin Manheim,
Northwestern University's William A. Patterson Distinguished Professor of
Transportation who passed away Thursday, August 10th after an extended
struggle with cancer. Professor Joseph Schofer noted" Marvin came to
Northwestern after a distinguished career as a scholar in transportation at
MIT, where he contributed importantly to the theory and practice of
transportation demand modeling and planning. His work has had a lasting
effect on urban transportation policy and planning. At Northwestern he
remade himself to focus on information technology and decision making in
transportation, logistics, and management. He was broadly known and
respected by transportation and logistics scholars, practitioners, and
managers around the world."
Marvin was an innovator, a patient man who prepared his students well. He
worked persistently to achieve positive change in the field and in his
university. His students and collaborators appreciate his insights, his
care, and his commitment to hard work until the end. His death is a loss to
transportation and to Northwestern."
Marvin Manheim was buried in a family plot in New Jersey on Sunday, Aug.
