Special Research Forum Calls for Papers
Management Education and Development in the New Millenium
in Managing in the New Millenium
The Academy of Management Journal has announced a special research forum on managing in the new millennium. The goal of this forum is publication of at least one paper on the topic from every division and interest group in the Academy during the calendar year 2000. Charles Wankel, St. John's University--New York City <wankelc@stjohns.edu> is the guest editor in charge of manuscript reviewing and selection, for the Management Education and Development Division for this issue. Associate Editors Rita Kosnik and Gregory Northcraft will oversee publication of the special research forum
The dawning of a new century provides an important opportunity for the Academy to take stock concerning where management education theory and practice has been in the last century, and where it can and should be going in the next one. Papers submitted under this call should seek to advance management education theory and practice by empirically identifying and exploring trends and developments that will help researchers and practitioners anticipate, understand, and address the challenges of managing management education in the new millennium. Topics appropriate for this call may include (but are not limited to):
Historical analysis or meta-analysis of past management education practices or research that identifies or anticipates developing trends in management education theory or practice (such as changing demographics, trends in management education research style or substance, or changing business school responsiveness to social/environmental concerns).
Emerging or developing business school and/or management education practices (such as distance learning, service learning, new approaches to internships).
Possible business school and/or management education practices that address developing trends in the business environment (such as globalization, or increasing reliance on information technologies).
Prospective authors are encouraged to consider both a broad variety of topics, and a broad variety of methodological approaches, including qualitative and quantitative approaches, from either lab or field, or any combination thereof. Authors should follow AMJ’s February 1998 "Style Guide for Authors" in preparing manuscripts. An accompanying cover letter should request that the manuscript be specifically considered for this special research forum, and should identify the appropriate division by which the manuscript is to be reviewed. Submit six copies (double-sided copies on recycled paper are preferred, but the title and abstract pages should be single-sided) to

For primary consideration, manuscripts should be submitted by January 1, 1999. (Simultaneous submission for the 1999 Academy meetings is permitted.)
Any questions concerning the submission deadline should be addressed to the appropriate guest editor. All published manuscripts must meet AMJ standards for publication (as outlined in the "Information for Contributors" contained in each issue of the Journal). While only one paper will be published from each Academy division in this special research forum, other submissions meeting publication standards will be offered publication in subsequent issues of the Journal.
