As many of you know, the U.S. Department of Energy Carlsbad Area Office
(CAO) and the Westinghouse Electric Company jointly operate a technology
transfer program to ensure that US taxpayers receive maximum return on
CAO-Westinghouse R&D in training, education, HRD, and OD. Since 1995,
we have completed over 7,000 transfers to U.S. organizations,
institutions and individual citizens, many of whom are members of this
list.
Recently, we surveyed a large sample of our recipients to determine the
economic impact of the program. I'm pleased to report that since 1995,
the program has helped generate an estimated $130,000,000 in spinoff
sales, savings, and grant monies. In addition, the program has created
or saved over 1,400 jobs in the US. Not bad for a program that costs
$50,000 per year to operate. Thanks to all who participated in the
survey and who have made this program successful. A special thanks to
the CAO for funding this program.
The CAO has recommended that program funding continue. Later this week
or early next week we will make available a new diagnostic tool
available to US businesses, educational institutions, government
agencies, non-profit organizations, and individual citizens at no charge
to recipients: the Training and Educational Leader Self-Assessment
(TELSA). I'll post a message to the list when TELSA is added to the
list of no-cost materials available for download at our web site:
