Dear Charlie, Please post the following if you think it is appropriate.

Most journals are targeted for either academics or
pratitiooner/consultants. Rarely do we speak together through the same
journal. As Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Management
Inquiry, I think we are one who tries. For those not familiar with JMI, it
is sponsored bu the Western Academy of Management and published by Sage,
and can be found in about 225 university libraries. Unlike traditional
academic journals, we publish no typical R-squared type of studies. JMI is
committed to the publication of imaginative and nontraditional knowledge
through alternative forms of express. JMI is divided into six sections:
Essays, Meet The Person, Reflections on Experience, Nontraditional
Research, Reviews, and Dialog. Two of these sections (Meet The Person and
Reflectons on Experience) typically published pieces by non-academics. For
example, the June, 1998 issue featured a piece written by Peter Delisi,
President of Organizational Synergies. The piece appears in Reflections on
Experience, and is titled, "A modern-day tragedy: The digital equiipment
story." Another recent piece, in the same section, was written by Robert
Keidel, Principal of Rebort Keidel Associates in Wnycote, PA. His piece
waas titled, "Organizational representatiuon: Process, structure,
mindselt. The December issue starts off with an interview with Aung Suu
Kyi, last year's Nobel Prize winner for Peace. The interview was conducted
by Judith White, and is titled, "Leadership through compassion and
understanding." Other recent interviews with non-academics include Earl
Eisenberg, of Earl Eisenberg Asssicates, and Wally Olins of the British
    consulting firm Wolff Olins.

Articles by or about noted academics can almost always be found in any
given issue. Among recent Presidents of the National Academy of Management
who have published in JMI are: Ann Huff, Bill Starbuck, Mike Hitt, Rick
Mowday, Mary Ann Von Glinow, and Ray Aldag. Thus, I think both
practitioner/consultant and academic members of the Management-Education,
and Development net would find JMI a good place to meet.

    Regards, Kim Boal
