Hi Chongwei,
The passage is about discrimination of women in work place. One way to
interpret the passage is:
> The women beat the men by more than the Cowboys beat the Steelers in the
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is this a baseball match???
> 1996 Super Bowl! All of the Cowboys received a gold ring.
This is the ultimate football championship, to determine the top football
team in the United States.
>The above line makes a statement that women beat men in more number of
ways than Cowboys beat Steelers.
Actually, the word "by" seems to refer more to the score than to areas of
play.
> In retailing, the female winners, in many cases, receive
discrimination, harassment, or an office > under a "glass ceiling."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What does this mean?
> This line means that inspite of their acheivements, they face
discrimination, harassment. Office under "glass ceiling" implies a place
where each and every activity of women are looked upon, they are spied upon
in their work.
No. The "glass ceiling" is an expression that means that women in the
workplace bump into an invisible barrier wheh they try to rise in the
workplace beyond a certain point.
