    Dear Colleagues,

I invite you to submit a paper to the 3rd Annual Informing Science
Conference. This year's conference will be held in Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia July 17-21, 1999. This is perhaps the best time of year to visit
    Brisbane.

Full conference details are found at http://inform.nu/IS99 .

    1. The dates of the conference, July 17-21, are now firm.
We are part of a multiconference that sets the dates.
The actual hotel is still subject to change.

    2. Extended abstracts should be sent to me via email by Jan. 1, 1999.

You need only submit an extended abstract at this point.
Instead of a conference consisting of entirely separate papers,
IS '99 approaches a common issue from a variety of
perspectives. All papers should deal with some aspect of
"issues in Informing your Client using Web Technology."

Papers from all fields that endeavor to inform their clientele are
welcome. These include a range of fields, such as IS, library,
    journalism, graphic art, and education.

** Issues in Managing Teleworkers **

Some papers will deal with technology, some with specific applications.
For example, I expect that we will learn about how best to conduct
a web search from colleagues in libraries who have conducted such a
    study.
Other papers will deal with issues in teaching using the web. Still
    others
will deal with the artistic design considerations of informing via the
    web.
Perhaps some will deal with cultural issues in web presentation and with
the impact of voice over the Internet on governmental regulatory
    agencies.

    ** Is E-Commerce a Management Nightmare? **
** Managing the Supply Chain using the Web **

The abstract is the first step. I will use it to convene author/reviewer
teams such that the author of one paper can and will refer to the works
of other authors at the conference. All papers will be rigorously
    reviewed
with the intention of improving and refining.

The best paper will, after refinement, be published in the journal
Informing Science <http://inform.nu>. The plan is that in place of a
    conference
proceeding, a book of the papers will be published.

    All the best,
