    Friends,

I apologize for the form letter, but it was the most efficient way to reach
    a large number of people.

For those of you who do not know, I have resigned my post as Associate Dean
here at Rutgers and have accepted a position as an Associate Professor of
Social and Organizational Analysis at the School of Business and Public
Management, George Washington University. After seven years here in
Jersey, it was, among other things, simply time to have a new patch of sky
to live under. So, I've bought a lovely, 200 year old townhouse in
Georgetown, a block off of M street, eight blocks from my office, and right
in between Rock Creek Park and the C&O Canal National Park. I will move in
December 29th. I'd very much like to stay in touch, so all of my new
contact information is below. Please take note of it, and give me a call
or drop me an e-mail sometime in January. Also, my new home has ample
room, so the next time you're in DC, know you have a place to stay.

    Yours,

    James

What an open-ended invitation! Do you really want to be inundated with the
hundreds of visitors to D.C. from among the lists you've sent this to? Good
luck in your new positions: at George Washington U. and as hotelier! I shall
file this message for future reference.
