FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
The conference is the 5th in a series which has been held
respectively
at
Lancaster, George Washington University, Lancaster and the Ivey
School,
University of Western Ontario. The aim is to consider recent
advances in
research and theory in the field of organizational learning and
knowledge.
Papers are invited primarily, but not exclusively, within the following
themes:
1. The Nature of Learning and Knowledge
* Language and Discourse
* Categorizations of Learning and Knowledge
2. The Social Processes of Organizational Learning and
Knowledge
Management
* Teams and Communities of Practice
* Power, Politics and Ethics
3. Learning Across Boundaries
* International and Cross-cultural Aspects
* Acquisitions, Joint Ventures and Alliances
4. Strategy, Competitiveness and Learning
* Competences and Knowledge
* Stickiness and Absorptive Capacity
5. Methodology
* Enquiring into Organizational Learning and Knowledge

2002. Max length, 800 words, or 2 pp single spaced. Please
indicate
whether a
full, or working, paper. For the former, be sure to cover the main
argument(s), how they are supported, and how it contributes to a
conference
theme and / or to the field in general. Acceptance decisions will be
communicated by early December; completed papers will be
required by 15th
March
2003.
Organization/ Design - This is intended as a working conference,
which
will be
restricted to those presenting papers (and limited to 100
participants).
There
will be two types of paper: full papers which are substantial,
theoretical
and/or empirical contributions of publishable quality (8,000 words
max),
and
working papers which may be more speculative or reporting
work-in-progress
(4,000 words max). There will be a range of activities including
plenaries,
formal presentations, and small group discussions to advise on the
development
of papers.
