I taught research methods years ago to business students. I also did some
consulting in the area of research, particularly surveys and interviews.
During case studies and applications in our courses and projects, it seemed
to me that most students/clients would benefit from really mastering the
most typical types of research methods, rather than from extended analysis
on, eg, each data collection method, all the approaches in quantitative and
qualitative research, etc.
So, instead, I focused on basic research methods for, eg, identifying
research goals, overviews of common data collection methods (surveys,
interviews, focus groups, observation, documentation reviews, use of case
studies), guidelines for analyzing data and writing reports.
