    Dear List-members,

    I guess I am one of the 300...

    Do the MBA programmes in US (or in EU) offer courses on "technology
    management", "R&D management", and "project management", and if yes, in
    what order?

    Best regards,

    Dr. M. Atilla Oner

    Dear Dr. Oner, Some do, many don't. These courses are not part of the
    traditional core requirements in most US business schools. However,
    because of their location and faculty, there are many fine MBA programs
    that offer these types of courses. Thinking bi-coastally, people like
    Andre Delbecq, Santa Clara University, or Joe Weiss, Bentley, offer these
    types of courses as of course do schools like MIT, NYU, etc.

    I have no idea how many US schools might offer all three of the courses you
    mentioned, or if they are sequenced. For that information, I think you
    need to consult specific university course catalogs. You might want
    contact Joe, who has written widely on project management, for a better
    feel on what is happening in US universities.

    Dear Mr. Oner;

    As a participator of an three-trimesters 18 month international MBA
    program specially designed for engineers, I all these courses.

    We first had the course of 'Project Management'; related with the
    'Information
    Management' and 'Organizational Theory' courses in the first trimester.

    In the second trimester we have 'Management of Innovation Processes' and
    'Technology & New Product Management' courses very closely related
    with each other, and going hand-in-hand with some combined projects.

    At the same time, we just started working on a 'High-Tech Marketing'
    project;
    basically working in groups together with some technology-oriented companies
    like AT&T and Phillips on the business plans of some new products.

    I hope this can be an example for your request;

    Enjoy...

    Worthy of note is the MBA in Technology Management at the University of
    Phoenix (with locations mainly in the western US and Canada as well as
    distance learning options, for working professionals):

    Within the Technology Management program are courses on project management
    and the strategic management of R&D. Details are at:
    http://www.uophx.edu/uop/_program.htm

    I've reviewed some of the texts and other materials used in the courses and
    found them useful in management situations at the telecommunications
    company where I work.
