    Hi Don,

I've just moved from the Graduate School of Management at Macquarie
University (MGSM) in Sydney, Australia to take up a new post, so this might
sound a bit 'self-serving', but I have to say that the MGSM MBA is one
program that was genuinely developed with the end in mind.

About a decade ago, we undertook a major realignment of the MBA program
within the context of the School's mission statement:

To be an eminent world class business and management school through:
    * Conducting high quality teaching and research programs;
    * Developing outstanding men and women for managerial leadership; and
    * Developing appropriate relationships with the Australian and
International business, government and general communities

We began with the proposition that management encompasses deciding what to
do and leading others to get it done. The core managerial competencies
related to this concept are those associated with managing markets, managing
finances and managing people. We also recognised that this management
activity is pursued in political, economic, social and technological
contexts. The learning of management students must therefore encompass
'concepts, competencies and context' at its essence.

The result was a collection of core subjects reflecting the core
competencies - HRM, OB (or Strategic Behaviour in MGSM language), marketing,
accounting, and financial management - the concepts - Foundations of
Management Thought, operations management, information and decision analysis
    - and the context - economic context of management, strategic management.
Students do an additional 6 subjects (for a total of 16 subjects) to
complete their MBA over 1, 2 or 3 years. It is considered one of the best
schools and programs in Australia and the Asia Pacific (by independent
raters) and so I'd encourage you to consider the model.

    Best regards,
