This holds true in Australia aswell. Two ways to overcome this is to hire
the video from a commercial lender as the copyright fee is usually included
in the hire fee. The down side to this is that over here the hire fee is
around AUD$200 per day!!!
The second way is to obtain a licence to play the video. There is an
organisation in most countries that represents the copyright owners of
video works. FYI, in Australia it is the Phonographic Performance Company
of Australia Ltd at
http://www.ppca.com.au
Obviously I don't know the copyright law in every country of the World.
However, I believe that there is an exemption clause in the Australian
Copyright Act (1968) which enables educational institutions to play videos
to classes (the actual clause number escapes me).
