Free Access: STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS FOR UK PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS (PDF |
    HTML)
    Jeff Watkins & Lynn Drury

Whilst the expertise that 'professionals' provide is highly valued, their
clients are now more knowledgeable, more discerning and expect much more in
terms of service and quality. The dual pressures of increased competition
and clients' high expectations combined with a whole range of social,
political, commercial and technological factors are driving profound changes
in the ways that professional work is organised, regulated and rewarded.
These changes are forcing professional associations to reassess their roles
and structures, their relationship to each other, society and their members.

LIFELONG LEARNING THROUGH CORPORATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP (PDF | HTML)
Mairi MacRae and Gillian A. Maxwell

This paper seeks to prosecute a case for lifelong learning through corporate
entrepreneurship. For corporate entrepeneurship, centring on the generation
and exploitation of new business opportunities, potentially offers business
opportunities in such a way that lifelong learning becomes an integral part
of how business succeed. On the basis of action research conducted in a
knowledge organization, Scottish Enterprise National, the paper offers an
analysis of corporate entrepreneurship in terms of its central and integral
organizational elements, viz culture, people, strategy, and processes.
Further, a strategic framework for the operationalisation of corporate
entrepreneurship is developed. Two propositions underpin the framework model
    of corporate entrepreneurship:

    COMING SOON

COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET - WERE ALL PROFESSIONALS NOW
    Dr Peter Critten

    ABSTRACT

This paper seeks to argue that a key characteristic of being a professional
is that one is recognized in the public domain by other professionals. If
this is so then there are implications for how professionals continue to
develop themselves. Though keeping up to date-with knowledge/skill is a
necessary ingredient, this is something that can be done individually.
Another component is the need to continually engage with other
professionals. The paper draws on a variety of case studies involving
professional development and concludes with a model which balances the
    personal and the public domain.
