Do you believe that very soon only technology-proficient teachers will
have jobs?
Increasingly, we hear administrators and news media (see "60 Minutes"
Sunday, July 29th) tell us just that. For years, some of us have used
technology merely to improve our teaching, to meet student expectations,
and to enjoy our work. Now, it seems we all MUST use technology.
For many reasons, then, it's time to get in touch with technology.
Join us at the Academy of Management Meeting on Saturday, no
registration necessary, for our Professional Development Workshop:
"Employing Institutional (Governmental) Resources and Transcending
Boundaries in Teaching Organizational Behavior and Management: How
Technology Changes Student and Professor Resource Usage." (Jointly
sponsored by OB and MED)
Saturday, August 4th
8:00am - noon (demonstration and seminar session)
1:00pm - 4:30pm (demonstration and hands-on practice)

"The people, not the government, are the source of wealth" (various
commentators). With so many calls for spending our governmental and
institutional resources, we might all ask: "How should I be seeking and
employing institutional resources to use technology in the teaching of
Organizational Behavior and Management?"
This session will address the technology resource issues in the teaching
of Organizational Behavior and Management. We will create a forum to
address options:
(a) Gaining access to resources and materials,
(b) Institutional support and protections to address while
developing
teaching materials, and
(c) Dealing with related affects on student learning.
We will provide participants a framework for cost-benefit issues
institutional resources for technology. We will demonstrate and
evaluate technology options with assistance to participants. We ask
(but do not require) that participants bring to the workshop (1)
resource issues to discuss (2) outline for a technology-based class
meeting, (3) a laptop computer (with CD drive)--we will provide several
computers, too.
8:30am to noon Morning Session (demonstration and seminar session):
Trace our personal development to show how we acquired and used
institutional resources to get to our separate present states in using
technology. Objective: model, frame, and address institutional resource
challenges in selecting, and delivering technology-based learning
experiences.
Lunch break (together)
1:00pm - 4:30pm Afternoon Session (demonstration and hands-on
practice):
Use current resources to further participants' own class preparations.
Objective: To provide hands on training and practice developing skills
in recognizing institutional resource elements.
