    AME International Conference - Boston

The annual International Conference of the Association for Manufacturing
Excellence will be held this November 6-10 in Boston. Keynote speakers
include James Womack (Founder, Lean Enterprise Institute) on "Lean
Thinking - The Next Leap" as well as Lt. General George MacDonald (NORAD) on
"The Essence of Speed," John Cone (President, Dell Learning) on
"Organization-Wide Knowledge Transfer," Steven Spear (Harvard University) on
"Decoding the DNA of the Toyota Production System," and Dan Burnham (CEO,
    Raytheon).

In addition, there are 25 plant tours, 15 hands-on workshops, and 36
presentations. This is a great opportunity to interact with a lean-driven
professional community and get hands-on knowledge of the next leading-edge
manufacturing concepts. For more information, visit the AME conference
    website at: http://www.ame.org/conference/index.html

The link posted with the AME didn't work. Instead go to

    http://www.ame.org/

and click on the pic of Tom Peters @ the conference

It looks like an interesting set of talks. If your mind is made up and you
think 'manufacturing' has nothing to offer your firm, don't bother. A lot
    of
MBA students make that mistake, too. If you are honestly skeptical but
    willing
to listen, it could be great. If you want to go 'lean' or get started, this
conf. will probably sell you the sizzle. Eating the steak requires very
specific, on-site activity. Every company situation really is different.
translating from the high level general statements down to the specifics is
    not
easy for those with little experience. Can be done, but not easily or
    smoothly.

Of course, there will be many people at the conference willing and able to
    sell
you the expertese. and some not at the conference.
