Hubert Wood said, It went something like, "If you help enough other people get
what they want, then you will get what you want."
An academic study that supports this wisdom is:
Pounds, William F. 1969, "The process of Problem Finding", Industrial
Management Review, Vol. 11, No. 1 (Fall), p. 1-19. (IMR became Sloan Mgmt
Review, I believe)
Pounds found that successful managers often helped with "other people's
problems". It is an excellent and short read.
