I invite interested faculty, students, and business people to join a group
of 80 French entrepreneur students in a virtual classroom done over the
Internet. This is the third version of this class which was wildly
successful in its first two versions. The attachment is a brief report of
the September 1997 class. English will be the primary language, but
French and Spanish will also work.
The class will happen over the Internet using E-mail and chat
room technologies between 10 May 1999 and 20 May 1999. The goal
is to link entrepreneurial and international management students
in France to students, faculty, and business people around the
world.
The 80 French students will work in two separate groups of 40
people. Group A will conduct their sessions from 10 May 1999 to
12 May 1999. Group B will conduct their sessions from 17 May
1999 to 19 May 1999. Within each group, the French students will
work in teams of 3 people.
We will use a question, answer, and discussion format. The main
topic is Internet commerce, including starting a commercial site,
security issues, international currency exchange, and anything
else that participants would like to discuss. The French
students will start the process by composing questions and
sending them to other participants. Participants who receive
questions, compose answers and send them to the originating
French group. Participants can also ask questions of the French
students; they will respond.
Group A's class will start at 1700, 10 May 1999 in Le Havre,
France. They will continue through 12 May 1999. Questions and
answers will go back and forth over the three days.
Group B's class will start at 1700, 17 May 1999 in Le Havre,
France. They will continue through 19 May 1999. Questions and
answers will go back and forth over the three days.
Past experience says that interactions often continue beyond the
scheduled time.
We do not assume that participants are on-line while the French
students compose and send questions. Where time zones allow
chatting, some groups likely will use a chat technology to have a
real-time effect.
ASKING AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS SHOULD TAKE ABOUT ONE HOUR ON
EACH OF THE THREE DAYS.
I will conduct a debriefing session on 20 May 1999. I will
prepare a summary report of the activities, similar to the
attachment, and send it to all participants.
