Regarding the query posted on the above subject, you may want to look at a
paper co-authored by me ('Communication, Procedural Justice, and Employee
Attitudes: Relationships under conditions of Divestiture', Journal of
    Management, 2000, Vo. 26, No. 1, pp. 63-83).

This was a study set in an organization that was being divested and
undergoing lay-offs. We found that perceptions of the justice of
divestiture explained variance in trust and committment above and beyond
that explained by the perceived justice of layoffs. Moreover, managerial
communications that helped employees understand the events surroundng the
divestiture increased perceptions of the procedural justice of the
divestiture and layoffs, and had both indirect and direct effects on
    future commitment.

    peace,
