    "Peer Evaluation Review Team":
A Training Simulation for Team Peer Evaluation and Feedback
Jointly sponsored by MED and OBTS

Bryan Mundell, Bocconi Graduate School of Business,
    Bocconi University, Milan
Chris Poulson, California State Polytechnic University Pomona /
    Bocconi Graduate School of Business

Peer evaluation is about as popular as the dentist (with all
apologies to any dentist reading this!) It seems painful in its
anticipation, fearsome in its execution, and when it's all over we
wonder what it was that we were worrying about! The objective of the
PERT simulation is to reduce the discomfort associated with periodic
peer evaluation by providing enhanced understanding of the process
and skills for increased personal and group effectiveness in
    conducting peer evaluations.
In this workshop we will present a shortened version of a simulation
we designed and successfully use in teaching peer evaluation
processes to MBA student teams at SDA Bocconi.

The Bocconi peer feedback system will be briefly described then
participants will be divided into teams of 6 with each person
receiving a brief description of an MBA student and copies of the
peer feedback summary for that student and the team. The core of the
simulation is a meeting of the "Peer Evaluation Review Team" (PERT)
which is responsible for making developmental recommendations for
every member of the fictitious "Piccolo Gruppo 10" they have
reviewed. Each PERT member is responsible for providing verbal
developmental feedback to the person whose file they reviewed.

Workshop participants will gain insight into the peer evaluation
process, experience in the simulation, and increased awareness of
their own evaluation and feedback styles.

The session will conclude with a group discussion off the
usefulness/appropriateness of peer feedback/evaluation in management
    education.
