  • 1.  Who's business is economics? Arts & Science or Business

Charles, I might have missed something but it seems that the format of
Mg-Ed-Dv has changed. Are people still able to post questions to Mg-Ed-Dv?
I have a question which I need advice with:

A new faculty position has been created to teach in our MBA program which is
run by our Business department. The course to be taught is Managerial
Economics, and therefore a person with a degree in Economics is being
recruited. The person will have no teaching responsibility in the Economics
program. The question is where should this person be assigned and therefore
evaluated, the Business department or the Economics department? I'm looking
for input on the benefits and liabilities of each possibility, and
information how this is working at other universities?

    Thanks,
    Ron Ross <Rlrosscpa@aol.com>

David Alcock at St. Martin's College in Lancaster, United Kingdom responds
to the Ron Ross <Rlrosscpa@aol.com> posting:

My opinion, as a Course Leader of a Economics prorgram, is that the person
should be in the Busienss department. Unless thre is a major element of
Economics within the MBA you would find the economists wanting to move
towards too much theory, not so much application, which is what your
students will want and need. Therefoer evaluation should be in Business
    also.
