    CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
    & CALL FOR PROPOSALS

    You are invited to participate in the
    Society for Teaching and Learning in
    Higher Education 21st Annual Conference
    at Memorial University of Newfoundland
    St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
    June 13-16, 2001

    The STLHE conference has a long-standing
    reputation for excellence in providing an
    interactive teaching- and learning-related
    program to educators from across North America
    and beyond.

    This conference is designed for:
    � University and college teachers
    � Faculty teaching developers
    � Instructional and curriculum developers
    � Teaching assistants, graduate and
    undergraduate students
    � Student affairs professionals

    TOPIC AREAS

    Proposals are invited for presentations
    in the following areas:
    TL - Teaching and Learning (General)
    ID - Instructional Development
    TA - Teaching Assistant Development
    and Support
    IT - Instructional Technology
    AD - Applicant Defined

    PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

    This year, for the first time, proposals are
    invited
    for pre-conference workshops to be held on June
    13, 2001. If you are interested in offering such
    a
    workshop, please contact the conference office at
    stlhe2001@mun.ca for a separate pre-conference
    workshop proposal form. The deadline for receipt
    of proposals is January 17, 2001.

    GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING PROPOSALS

    Proposals may be submitted via mail, fax or
    e-mail.

    Submissions must be received by January 31, 2001.

    A. Cover Sheet

    Please include the following information:
    1. Name, position and organization
    2. Mailing address, telephone, fax and e-mail
    3. Co-presenter(s) name, position and
    organization (if applicable)
    4. Presentation title
    5. Topic area (see previous section)
    6. Format (20, 50 or 75 minute; poster)
    7. A brief (approx. 50 words) summary of your
    presentation as you would like it to appear in
    the conference guide
    8. Audio-visual requirements (data projector,
    VHS player and monitor, overhead projector,
    Internet connection, etc.)

    B. Presentation Description

    Provide a description (150-200 words) of
    your proposed presentation, including:
    � objectives
    � content
    � plan to involve participants
    (required for 50 and 75 minute sessions)

    Indicate if you have any restrictions on the
    scheduling of your presentation.

    The STLHE 2001 Program Committee will select
    presentations from among the proposals and provide
    notification of acceptance by mid-March.

    CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

    Registration information and a preliminary
    program will be distributed and posted on the
    STLHE 2001 Website (http://www.mun.ca/stlhe2001).
    Please note that all presenters are required to
    pay
    the conference registration fee of $270 (CDN)
    which includes lunches and a banquet.
    Accommodation will be available on-campus and
    at nearby hotels and bed & breakfasts.
