    Dear Colleagues,

Individuals in organizations are often in a position where they need to lead and follow at the same time, how they deal with the dual role of leader and follower is however largely unexplored. Come and investigate with us this phenomenon at this symposium:

Manager as a Valued Leader and a Valued Follower:
    Making Managerial Work More Meaningful

    Scheduled: Tuesday, Aug 9 2016 3:00PM - 4:30PM at Anaheim Convention Center in 202B

Managers, occupying a position set at the joint of different layers of the hierarchical organization are bound to be both effective leaders, and effective followers. However how they contend with these two roles in concert is unexplored: How do they develop narratives about themselves as leader and follower? How do they co-enact these roles, often conceptualized as juxtaposed? Can a manger follow too much, or too little?

Exploring these questions is important to make managerial work more meaningful. Acknowledging managers not just for their capacity to be leaders, but also for their capacity to be followers can create more meaningful organizations. Often it is poor followership, like following an unethical boss or not speaking up in case of risk, that causes organizations to behave in ways that destructive for society.

We look forward to seeing you in Anaheim.

    Best,
    Zahira
