With the nature of my current role changing, I am looking for other income
avenues, and lately, I have noticed more job advertisements for Technical
Writers. Before I start chasing some of these positions, I wonder if my
internet community could answer a couple of questions.

In what formats do employers expect to receive training materials, course
materials, etc. apart from Word, powerpoint?

What is the degree of difficulty/time/effort required to learn each
    different format?

Would they expect to receive a sample of my work with my application?

    Your assistance is greately appreciated

    Myrna,

You asked about information on what it takes to be a technical writer. You
might start by looking at the web site for the Society for Technical
Communication--THE professional organization for all forms of technical
    communication.
