With apologies for cross posting.
Dear Colleagues:
We hope that you can join us at the Academy of Management Annual Conference for the following PDW:
TRANSLATING SCHOLARSHIP INTO PRACTICE: HOW CAN THE RESULTS OF SCHOLARLY RESEARCH BE TRANSLATED INTO INFORMATION PRACTITIONERS CAN USE?
Program Session #: 391 | Submission: 10399 | Sponsor(s): (PTC, CMS, OB, OMT, ODC, SAP)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 10 2013 5:00PM - 8:00PM at WDW Coronado Springs Resort in Coronado T
This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) will provide an opportunity to discuss and reflect critically on the recent initiatives to bridge the research-practice gap and to inspire extensions of current efforts to increase the relevance and usability of academic work. We approach the research-practice gap from several perspectives, including that of the researcher, practitioner, and consultant representing academia, and the public and private sectors. The PDW participants are experts from around the world who will interactively explore with participants how each role contributes to the creation, translation, and dissemination of research results that are relevant and useful to practitioners.
This PDW will be addressing such questions as:
· How do we as scholars have impact beyond our own community?
· How to design research that will have high impact on both the academic community and the world of practitioners?
· What is keeping practitioners away from engaging in research projects with academics?
· How can you meet the conditions for Leader Member Exchange (LMX) theory to be successful in your business unit?
· How can graduate education change to lessen the gap between academics and practitioners?
· What can be done to reward scholars - particularly those who are working toward tenure - at research focused business schools to publish their research in journals read primarily by practitioners rather than in journals read primarily by scholars?
· How do we build a culture of integrating research and practice?
· In a rapidly changing global business context, and in the midst of greater volatility, uncertainty and complexity, does the research-practice divide still make sense?
