Eric Goodman, Ph.D. of Colorado Technical University asked help with
identifying "recent industry sources/studies, professional standards, etc. that would help us identify what graduates from various management programs should know, be able to do and value."
I am sometimes asked by organizations to evaluate what managers are able to do and how well they are able to do it. Some of this work has been published in a series of articles. Probably the most helpful, recent ones are as follows:
Shipper, F. (Forthcoming). "A Cross-Cultural, Multi-Dimensional, Nonlinear
Examination of Managerial Skills and Effectiveness." Abstract to be published in the 2000 Proceedings of the Academy of Management, Toronto, Canada, August 4-9, 2000.Nominated for the Carolyn Dexter Award.
Shipper, F. , & Dillard, Jr., J. E. (Forthcoming). "A Study of Impending Derailment and Recovery of Middle Managers Across Career Stages." Human Resource Management Journal.
You can find titles and abstracts of these and older articles related to this subject on my web site listed below. If you would like copies of any of these that you cannot get in your local library, please send me an e-mail off-list with your postal address and I will send them to you next week. It's finals week (oh joy)! I'm sure you understand.
