Marina:
A quick search of the Red Herring site revealed 41 hits on the subject.
The most interesting treatment I can recall was:
Redherring.com - Can UPS deliver on
dot-com promise?- February 07,
2000
The Red herring search site is at: <http://search.redherring.com/>
Given the huge surge in Christmas shopping online late last year, and the
problems associated with fulfillment of those orders, I suspect you'll find
a lot of materials with similar searches of any major business
publication's web-site. It was a major glitch in the development of
e-commerce.
You may want to press beyond repeating those problems to look at the
responses to them. In New Jersey, we have been witnessing a really
remarkable expansion of specialized warehousing and materials handling
facilties, including robotic warehouses. The logistics problem of the
e-commerce companies is the opportunity of the logistics firms. For the
first time in many years, operations management is starting to look like a
popular MBA option, as these companies search for people who can solve the
problems.
