Organizational Behavior: Essential Tenets for a
    New Millennium

Joseph E. Champoux, University of New Mexico
    South-Western College Publishing
    ISBN: 0-324-01335-3

Organizational Behavior: Essential Tenets for a New
Millennium is a compact, enjoyable presentation of
organizational behavior theories and concepts. Although
firmly grounded in behavioral science theory and research,
the text is not a collection of research findings. The
author carefully selected topics and built them into
frameworks that are useful for explaining, analyzing, and
diagnosing organizational processes. This affordable text
has proven to be easy reading for students with English as a
    second language.

The text is designed for maximum flexibility in use. You can
readily combine it with your favorite cases, exercises, videos,
and movie scenes. The author gives guidelines for each of these
    uses in the instructor's manual.

    Features:

. Opening episodes, drawn from press accounts, set a
    realistic tone for each chapter.

. Full chapter treatment of ethics and behavior in
    organizations.

. An International Issues section in each chapter describes
the cross-cultural issues raised by the chapter's content.

. An Ethical Implications section in each chapter
addresses the ethical issues raised by the chapter's
    topics.

. Combined micro and macro perspectives describing the
relationships between aspects of organizational design
    and behavioral processes.

The outline and description look good Joe, but I am curious about a
peripheral issue ... the choice of the word "millennium" as part of
    the title.

On the one hand it seems improbable that any work will be relevant
"for a new millennium" and that with a few notable exceptions, books
in this genre are usually dead within a decade.

The other downside is that, like Halley's comet, the millennium comes
and goes. It seems to me that about half way through 2001 the new
millennium will be as interesting as yestersday's breakfast. Is there
an expectation on the part of authors that the word millennium has a
sales value, at least for the period leading up to and just after the
    change?

    regards

Thanks for this. I had received an earlier e-mail about the book and was
very interested. I have two large groups of students taking a new course I
have designed in OB. Would have liked an inspection copy but your
publishers in the UK seem reluctant. Requested same about a 6 weeks ago!
    Anything you could do.

NEW BOOK:  The Sage Handbook of Management Learning, Education and Development.

Edited by Steven J Armstrong University of Hull and

Cynthia V Fukami University of Denver

The scholarship of management teaching and learning has established itself as a field in its

own right and this benchmark handbook is the first to provide an account of the discipline.

Original chapters from leading international academics identify the key issues and map out

where the discipline is going. Each chapter provides a comprehensive and critical overview of

the given topic area, highlights current debates and reviews the emerging research agenda.

Chapters embrace the study of organizations as a whole, the concepts of individual and collective learning, the

delivery of formal management education and the facilitation of management development. Through consideration of

these themes the Handbook analyzes, promotes and critiques the contribution of management learning, education

and development to management understanding. It will be an invaluable point of reference for all students,

researchers and Deans interested in broadening their understanding of this exciting and dynamic new field.

    Colleagues,

Bruce Avolio's new book from Information Age Publishing argues that some direct reports of managers will prevent their bosses from falling off the proverbial cliff while others will "give them a nudge toward the abyss".  This book is a good exemplar of LMX theory in action.  It's all about leader-member psychological alliances.  Managers without them seldom survive the "cliff".  As Bruce argues, it's not about average leadership style, it's about developing leader-member strategic alliances.  (Graen, G. 2012), Oxford Handbook of Leadership, Michael Rumsey (Ed.).  What do you think?
