    David,

Back in the early 80's when I was doing my MPA we had a book called
"Classics of Public Administration" by Shafritz and Hyde. You might begin by
picking up a copy of it. I would also suggest you direct your query to the
public admin. dept. at SUNY. There is also the ASPA - American Society for
Public Administration. They also have a journal, the Journal of Public
    Administration.

    MG-ED-DV-ers:

I am interested in any suggestions on monographs, research articles and
other resources that apply principles of organization theory to public
sector (non business/corporate) organizations. Most of my cases and
examples in my class and writings are taken from private sector
corporations. I would like to expand the application....I need to
    diversify.

    Thanks in advance.

Hold on... technical error in the journal title.... ASPA's journal is PAR
    (Public Administration Review).

Michael M. Harmon and Richard T. Mayer (1996) published an outstanding text:
_Organization Theory for Public Administration_, Chatelaine Press.

Sage also publishes a journal: American Review of Public Administration.

There's also an on-line PA journal: Journal of Public Administration and
    Management
    http://www.pamij.com

Shafritz and Ott is also a good resource.

That should give you a good start. For other institutional resources there's
also a good MPA program at SUNY College at Brockport, and SUNY Albany has a
    very solid PhD in PA.

    Good luck:

One of the best research (and readable) journals in
Public Administration in addition to PAR and ARPA
is JPART Journal of Public Administrationn Research
and Teaching. &&& also Public Integrity - most
libraries now have it. Fran Burke
