Hi Debra, if I recall, most of us were refering to
Herzberg's theory, rather than indicating an article.
The article using Maslow's theory was used as a
reference to the fact that changes in the local
economic enviornment led to changes in employees
values and motivating factors. Lists based upon
Herzberg's work are usually:
Hygiene Factors include
* Working conditions
* Salary
* Status
* Security
* Interpersonal relations
Motivation Factors Include
* Achievement
* Achievement Recognition
* Responsibility
* Advancement
* Growth
The Selmer & Littrell working paper results indicated
that importance of job factors such as Advancement and
Achievement decreased significantly with
deterioriating economic conditions, and the value of
Job Security increased signifcantly. I would
interpreted the degree of movement as indicating that
Job Security became a motivating factor and
Achievement and Advancement were no longer motivators.
Regards,
Romie
