Call for papers: Special issue of 'Campus-Wide Information Systems'
(ISSN 1065-0741) peer-reviewed journal on the theme:

"Multimedia Systems for Lifelong Learning: Success and Challenges"

    * Introduction
Lifelong learning has become a subject of major interest in recent years. Learners
in this category constitute those who continue formal, non-formal and informal
learning activities beyond student life. Such learners obviously include
practitioners who have to learn continuously due to rapid changes in the technology
employed for their work. Lifelong learners are also those who traditionally pursued
adult learning or distance learning avenues in order to advance or complement
current knowledge in pursuit of career advancement or recreation activities.
Motivation to learn is typically problem focused and is relevant to the need of the
learner to gain understandings or to master a skill.

Clearly, there is an array of contemporary technological hardware, software and
systems that augment life-long learning; multimedia technologies and systems
provide a range of ways for aiding the lifelong learner to achieve success in
knowledge and skills acquisition whether these be physical or cognitive. Research
into the use of multimedia for learning is, therefore, crucial in developing
effective and efficient technologies and systems for lifelong learning. This
special issue will focus on the success of, and lessons learned from the research,
development and implementation of multimedia technologies and multimedia systems.
