Director of Research and Academic Affairs
EAMS is an independent, not-for-profit institution at the interface
between Arab and European countries. It was established in 1995 by the
European Commission and the League of Arab States, with the support of
the Spanish Government, to provide education, applied research and other
services for the development of business between Arab and European
companies. The School is looking to recruit a suitable person to fill
the following vacancy:
Director of Research and Academic Affairs
Reporting to EAMS Deputy Director, the core responsibility of the
Director of Research and Academic Affairs is to oversee, manage and co-
ordinate the research activities of the School, as well as the academic
components of its various degree programmes. Profile
An earned academic qualification at a doctorate level in management or
related field;
Five years or more of research experience in an academic or research
institution; teaching experience is an asset
Published research on issues relevant to EAMS mission and activities
Ability to conceptualise, plan, develop, implement and evaluate applied
research projects on a wide range of management and socio- economic
issues;
Track record of establishing links with academics and researchers in
management;
Experience and skills to work in a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary
team; sharp interest in international issues;
Experience in using computer-based information technologies, work
processing programs and research applications
Fluency in English, both verbal and written. A working knowledge in
Arabic, French or Spanish is an asset.
Responsibilities Research
Carries out major research programs and projects relevant to EAMS core
activities, including conceptualisation, design, selection of
methodology, information gathering, analysis, reports writing,
publication and presentation of research findings, and post-project
evaluations;
Designs research proposals and work plans, and prepares resource and
budget estimates with regard to programs and projects undertaken by the
school;
Identifies, develops and co-ordinates the participation of EAMS in joint
research programmes with other institutions;
Develops and submits proposals for research programs and projects to
potential funding sources for review and evaluation by peers and
committees of experts, and negotiates the terms and conditions for the
implementation of approved proposals;
Ensures that research outcomes are disseminated and reach recognised
publications, conferences and academic Journals.
Co-ordinates research projects of the Research Fellowship Programme,
which include eight senior researchers.
Manages and supervises research projects of the Intern Research
Programme, which include twelve junior researchers
Supervises EAMS online resources centre and ensures that all research
results and production are incorporated and updated.
Academic Affairs
Co-ordinates internal and external validation and accreditation
processes for EAMS academic programmes;
Works with the different programme directors to ensure implementations
of quality control and assurance policies of the Academic Council
Develop a network of Subject Matter Experts to review and update EAMS
core knowledge learning material
Assists in identifying, selecting and contracting visiting faculties for
the different programmes
Assists in supervising students research and project work.
Assists directors of the different academic programmes in the
identification, selection and contracting academic advisors for project
work.
Appointment The successful candidate will be based in Granada, Spain,
with occasional travelling assignments. Length of contract would be of
three years renewable, starting September 2002. Financial package
including a base salary plus other benefits and incentives is negotiable
and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Research and Teaching Fellowship Programme
EAMS is an independent, not-for-profit institution established in 1995
by the European Commission and the League of Arab States, with the
support of the Spanish Government, to provide education, applied
research and other services for the development of business between Arab
and European companies. The School is pleased to announce its first
fellowship programme for the year 2002-2003 in management and business
education research. EAMS is recruiting up to six fully paid fellowships
for duration of 12 months.
Successful candidates are expected to:
Carry out a planned research agenda in his/her own area of management
expertise;
Create, develop and revise management content material for executive
programmes;
Conduct short executive courses in management-related fields;
Conduct consulting assignments in his/her areas of expertise;
Advise and supervise project work of the School participants.
Ideal candidates would have solid academic background in Management with
a specialisation in one or more of the following disciplines: Strategic
Management; International Business; Euro-Arab Economics and Trade;
Operations Management; Human Resources Management; Marketing; IT and
E-Commerce; Cross-cultural Management; Finance; Entrepreneurship and
Innovation; Project Management; etc… coupled with practical experience
in executive education, e-learning and business consulting. They should
have:
Postgraduate qualifications, preferably a Doctorate degree in
management, business or a related field;
Strong research, teaching and/or consulting credentials especially in
one or more of the following sectors: SMEs, Healthcare, Banking and
Financial Services, Tourism, Energy, Manufacturing;
Fluency in English, both oral and written. A working knowledge in
Arabic, French or Spanish will be an asset;
Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary
team;
Good IT and communication skills.
Appointment
Residential in the city of Granada with the possibility of travel
assignments.
A basic minimum stipend of €40,000 is provided plus benefits, including
health coverage, and limited support for research-related expenses plus
housing subsidy. Additional support includes office space, computer and
administrative support.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to deliver a number of
executive courses for EAMS, which will be remunerated in addition to the
basic stipend.
