    Lisa:

Jack, I think you are wrong----I had done the usual BIOS tests on Y2k using
many test modules before 31/12/99 and they all confirmed my
compliance.-----yet on jan 1st my control panel/ date time did not roll
over. So I followed paul's advice now and sure enough all my date past and
present have the right numbers. Paul is a respected academician and runs a
reputed academic on line courses for a decent university----he does not
creat hoaxes-----we do it in our mind.!!

regds and have a happy new year

This was not a hoax. It was sound advice.

You do have to roll the date over by hand on both Windows95 and 98. It can
be done in the BIOS setup or it can be done through the control panel which
    automatically updates the bios.

We rolled one computer over six weeks ago which gave us plenty of time to
evaluate the software. All the commercial software companies had
instructions for their software fixes on their Internet sites.

The bigger problem is software. Each piece has to be tested on its own
    merits, which gets tedious.

In a message dated 00-01-01 08:29:29 EST, you write:

<< yet on jan 1st my control panel/ date time did not roll
    over. >>
Mine didn't either. I had to do it manually, even though I had done the long
    date fix.

    S. V. Ramani,

Clock rollover - hoax? You can read a discussion on this issue at:
    http://urbanlegends.about.com/culture/urbanlegends/library/weekly/aa081199.h
    tm

Hoax or not is unimportant at this point but I think it would be wise for
those of you who changed Windows to a four digit format to be aware of some
limitations and potential problems that may result. Read here:
    http://y2k.berkeley.edu:7040/computers/fixpcs/issues/os-date-format.html

Have you ever wondered what will happen on 31/12/9999? I guess there's
plenty of time left to plan the fix to 5 digit years!

Best regards and have a great new year.
