    The Board of Regents and the Chancellor of the University System of Maryland invite nominations and applications for the position of President of Salisbury State University (SSU). Celebrating its 75th anniversary in the 2000-2001 academic year, SSU is located on the historic and scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland. Attracting excellent students from throughout the mid-Atlantic region and 29 foreign countries, SSU offers 30 undergraduate majors distinguished by close student-faculty interaction and emphasizes undergraduate research, internships and service learning. Master's programs include applied health physiology, business, education, English, history, and nursing. All four of SSU's schools are endowed, a rarity among public institutions. They are, the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, the Henson School of Science and Technology, the Perdue School of Business, and the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies. SSU is nationally ranked in U.S. News & World Report, Princeton Review and Kiplinger's magazine. Cited as a "best value," SSU offers an honors program for its top scholars and individual attention to all stu-dents. With a student population of more than 6,000 - approximately 5,400 of which are undergraduate - SSU has a faculty complement of 259, an annual operating budget of $68 million, and annual contract and grant revenues of $2.4 million.

    The President of SSU is the chief executive officer of the institution and is responsible to the Chancellor and the Board of Re-gents of the University System of Maryland. The System comprises 11 degree-granting institutions and two research institutions. It is the nation's 12th largest public university system, serving 130,000 students world-wide through 600 academic programs. Its annual budget is in excess of $2.3 billion.

    Within the scope of Board of Regents' policy, the President exercises broad and delegated authority and is responsible for all aspects of campus administration. Candidates for this position should have demonstrated leadership skills in an academic environment, a demonstrated record of successful fund raising, senior experience in the administration of large, diverse and complex organizations (such as regional comprehensive Mas-ter's I institutions as defined by the Carnegie Classification) and have qualifications suitable for an academic appointment.
