  • 1.  Call for Participation in the MED AOM Program in Toronto

    Posted 11-05-1999 09:23
The Toronto Academy of Management Conference theme is "A New Time" and it is
now time to begin your preparations for participating in another exciting
Management Education and Development Division (MED) program. We would like
you to consider preparing a paper and/or symposium proposal before the
    January 7, 2000 deadline for
submissions. We are also interested in your service as a reviewer for the
    MED program.

As always, your submission papers and symposia can relate to the conference
theme or not. Non-theme papers and symposia typically focus on theory
development, hypothesis testing or critical examination/evaluation of
management education and development practices and policies in the classroom
or in the work place. The conference theme " A New Time" focuses on how
time in its multiple conceptions (e.g., rhythm, polychronicity, tempo,
pacing, duration, anticipation, entrainment and milestones) and how temporal
perspectives (e.g., time urgency, punctuality, time/planning horizons),
including the new millennium (2000) are impacting MED tools, theories, and
practices. We encourage your innovation and creativity in developing both
    theme and non-theme submissions.

Conference Theme issues and submissions instructions are elaborated in the
AOM Call for Papers mailed to you with the October 1999 Academy Newsletter
and also available at the AOM website http://www.aom.pace.edu/meetings/2000.
Please note carefully the specific instructions on paper and program
submissions, including the important electronic submissions procedures, by
which you receive a submission ID number. You must submit your title and
abstract electronically through the AOM website before sending your
submission to us. Do not mail your paper/symposium without first completing
your electronic submission and obtaining your submission ID number. The
electronic submissions number you receive from AOM must be written on all
copies of the paper or symposium submissions you mail us.

Please register your submissions on the web page early, preferably one week
before you mail your hard copy submissions. Be warned that you are likely to
encounter significant delays in electronic submissions in the days
immediately before the January 7, 2000 deadline due to heavy traffic. Some
good news is that this year???s electronic submissions procedures are much
more user-friendly and less cumbersome than was the case last year.

Please mail five copies (rather than the four copies referred to in AOM
instructions) of your paper and symposia submissions to:

    Robert DeFillippi
    Frank Sawyer School of Management
    Suffolk University
    8 Ashburton Place
    Boston, MA 02108-2770

    Reviewer Instructions

If you will be volunteering to review papers or symposia, and if you have
not already done so, please email your desire to review to
rdefilli@suffolk.edu. We will then contact you by e-mail and ask you about
your preferences in reviewing, your best mid January mailing and email
addresses, and other details. Of course, doctoral candidates are urged to
review, just as they are strongly encouraged to submit session paper and
    symposium proposals.

    Awards, Awards, Awards!

Finally, do not forget that Med has a variety of awards for papers, symposia
and reviewers: Best Paper in Management Education, Best Paper in Management
Development, Best Paper in Innovative Design, Best
Symposium, and awards for outstanding reviewers. Awards include $500 cash
awards, lovely MED award plaques (suitable for your office wall) and
certificates of service, all of which are announced and celebrated at the
MED business meeting in Toronto. See details on these awards in the special
instructions for MED in the AOM Call for Paper of the October 1999 AOM
    newsletter or at www.aom.pace.edu/meetings/2000.

We are counting on you to submit papers and symposium proposals, serve as
reviewer, and participate in the most exciting and diverse Management
Education and Development program ever in
    Toronto, August 4-9, 2000.

    Warm Regards,

    Robert DeFillippi
    MED 2000 Program Chair
    and Associate Professor
    of Management
