I personally believe that "news" about non-Mgmt Education should be given by a
URL link for those interested. This thread about 4-digit dates shows how much
misinformation can be bandied about.
Paul Shrivastava wrote: Every single installation of Windows worldwide is
defaulted to fail Y2K rollover. This may not crash your operating system, but
do you want to risk that?
1. MY installation was defaulted that way, it is on earth, and therefore
Paul's statement is inaccurate or at least an exaggeration. (Why? Probably
because I applied "Year 2000 Update for Windows 98" a while back and that
seems to have changed the 'default'. My system rolled over automatically, with
no manual steps required.)
2. S.V.Ramani defended my friend Paul, " Paul is a respected academician and
runs a
reputed academic on line courses for a decent university----he does not
create hoaxes". I agree that Paul surely did not intentionally create a hoax.
The damning part of the statement is that Paul is simply an academic and
online purveyor and NOT a computer expert. By academic standards, most if not
all of us on this list are NOT qualified computer professionals. That is a
widespread phenomena, as W. H. Auden pointed out, "America has always been a
country of amateurs where the professional is an object of distrust and
resentment." (Faber Book of Modern American Verse,1956).
3. Jack Loza is to be congratulated for giving a succinct note and link to an
authoritative site (cite!). Thanks Jack!
