Robert,
Upon reflection, I agree that newbies was a misdiagnosis.
I like the appliance metaphor. Maybe what is needed, as a start, is a
large OFF button. In another listserv, instructions for signing off are
part of the signature block added to every post by the server. Two lines
save a lot of grief.
I would propose a similar message, but in the header for this forum.
