    Netters,

On the eve of the new millenium, and in anxious
anticipation of the portents of things to come, please allow me to
offer my fellow netters three cheers and an elegy:

(However, before proceeding further, you might enjoy the
irony of this complaint about possibly overdoing advanced technology,
being itself posted on the high-tech medium it bemoans!...)

CHEER 1: Kudos to the producers of the All-Academy Newsletter, as
well as the producers of the OMT and TIM newsletters who still mail
us their beautifully done printed copies -- What an unearned delight!

CHEER 2: Kudos to the producers of the Adobe Acrobat versions of the
BPS and MOC (and other) divisional newsletters. They look just like
print. True, it's a battle to print them on the communal printers --
but, once printed, the sight of them reminds you of the freely
received beautifully printed newletters of times past!

CHEER 3: Isn't the turn of the century a good time to mull over
optimization and chaos theories? In the greater scheme of things,
how do the newly-empowered brave little 3,000 printers of the AOM
membership enjoy all their newfound newsletter downloading heretofore
reserved to the 30 industrial-strength printers of the Academy's
divisions? Kudos to individual printers pulling their weight --
    Lucky them!

AN ELEGY: And lucky us? We're now left to wonder and ponder
what's in store for us. Gone forever are the times past of freely
delivered newsletters on which only a few sacrificial lambs (the
Academy's officers) had to slave away! All of us now having to pitch
    in? Brave new world!?... Indeed.

Please send in your rejoinders. Millenial Season's Greetings!

    Will Acar
