I would like to recruit people interested in participating in an Academy of
Management Toronto 2000 Conference Symposium centering on "New and Winning
Approaches to Teaching Strategy". This symposium does not yet exist: what I
am doing is recruiting people and then intend to submit a proposal to the
Academy in the next two weeks. To be eligible, you have to email me a 2-5 page
synopsis of what you would present or discuss, which I will not edit. I am
offering to bundle 4 to 6 presentations with a cover page, title page, 3-5
page overview statement, an explanation of why the symposium should be of
interest to both the BPS (Business Policy) and MED (Mgmt Education) groups,
and the individual synopses. If the response is large, I will try to bundle
two or three such symposium proposals, clustered as best as possible.
Note that symposia are either 80 or 120 minutes long, but I am figuring about
15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes questions. There could also be some panel
discussion if the presentations are short, say 10 minutes.
For this type of symposium, it makes sense to recruit from the widest possible
pool of interested people. Both academics and professionals who teach strategy
are encouraged to participate. There are a couple of caveats: 1) the Academy
requires a signed statement from each intended participant showing agreement
to participate and permission to (or not to) have the session recorded. So if
your 2-5 page synopsis fits in, I will get back to you and ask you to snail
mail (perhaps digital signatures will be accepted?) your commitment to show
up. 2) The rules are that "Each person can participate (as author, presenter,
discussant, panelist, or session chair) in no more than three paper and
symposia submissions.", for which this symposium will count as one.
The full set of specifications is available at
http://www.aom.pace.edu/meetings/2000/callforsubs.htm, but the only part that
you need to be concerned with is "2-5 page synopsis of each presentation",
"complete professional name and contact information" = "Formal names, postal
and e-mail addresses, telephone and FAX numbers of all presenters."
If you are interested, please email me your 2-5 page synopsis (text, DOC, RTF,
etc.) on or before December 24th, preferably sooner. I will bundle the
proposal(s) asap and send them in and let everyone who was interested know
what is going on, subject to campus email and Internet availability.
