    Charlie,

For some reason, the notice you kindly let me send came to me in the Digest all scrambled.  Shall we try it again?

We already live in a multi-cultural world and leaders in business, government, non-profit and other organizations find themselves leading heterogeneous/multi-cultural teams with skills that are more appropriate for homogenous teams.  In this webinar, Joe Garcia will share some ideas about furthering our thinking, understanding and enacting ways of leading that brings out the best in who otherwise might be unlikely partners.  In addition, he hopes to engage in a conversation on how we as management educators can re-form our curriculum and further our own capacity to address this topic.

Joe Garcia is the Bowman Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies &

Director of the Karen W. Morse Institute for Leadership at Western Washington University.  His career focus is on building healthy communities in organizations, with publications spanning the topics of leadership, diversity, managerial skills, management education, group support systems, and change management.  Dr. Garcia is a member of many academic and professional organizations and currently serves as President of the Management Faculty of Color Association, and is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Management Education, the Academy of Management Learning and Education Journal, and the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. Most recently, he has served as designer and lead facilitator of the Summer Leadership Institute for the Society for the Advancement of Chicano and Native American Scientists.   Among his other honors, he has received the Academy of Management's Organizational Behavior Division Exceptional Leadership and Service Award, and was recognized by the OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators with both the Peter J. Frost Excellence in Mentoring Award and the Distinguished Service Award.

OBTS Webinar Series connects prominent management scholars with colleagues in a technology-mediated format that can serve many purposes.  Not only will we learn more about these scholars' work and have the opportunity to discuss issues, we also may make new connections among our colleagues that can lead to future study groups, research initiatives and other professional development activities. In planning the series, we thought that not only learning more about what people do would be important but also how they view the challenges for the future.  We are very pleased that Joe Garcia will be working with us.  And conversations can continue at OBTC 2010 at The University of New Mexico whose theme is Engaging Difference.

We look forward to you joining us on Friday, 30 October 2009, from 2:00 – 3:00p.m. EST.  Again, please sign up athttp://www.obtc.org/webinars
